Pledging
A What?
A pledge is a promise to do something if certain criteria are met. In the case of the Influx Project it’s saying ‘I’m prepared to pay a personal contribution to the UN if ‘X’ number of others will’.
The Pledge Amount
We have set the world average contribution at $4 per person per year.
Where Pledge Money Goes
Pledges are paid into the Influx Trust, a registered charity. From here 17% of accumulated funds may be used by the Influx Project for administrative costs. The remainder is paid to the UN’s Millenium Development Goals until 2015, after which we intend to develop the means to fund the UN as a whole.
National Weighting
In order for the pledge amount to be fair to citizens of countries of different economic means the pledge is weighted according to the GDP per capita of each nation.
Why Pledges?
This approach allows people to move forward together on an issue, but only as soon as they are ready. As with raising money for any community project it is a proven way to achieve what might otherwise appear impossible.
Administrative Costs
The 17% figure for administration charges is relatively high for a charity but there are reasons why we can justify it as well as promising to reduce it as soon as possible.
1)The inclusive nature of the Influx Project means that the majority of the pledges collected are extremely small.
2) It helps the cashflow during the early days when our financial stability is weakest.
3) Because every dollar spent on administation it creates more awareness of the Influx Project therefore increasing the total funds we raise for theUN.
