Cheering The Referee
by Max Kalis ~ January 24th, 2009
At the Influx Project we take neither side of a dispute, we simply rally support for creating a referee better able to resolve the dispute. We feel that because of the unequal status of countries at the UN it means that the referee is not able to muster enough weight or legitimacy to resolve such deep differences as in the Middle East.
The inequality of countries is primarily within the Security Council where 5 countries have special veto rights. The council has the responsibility of international security and conflict resolution. There are plans to expand the council to reflect the world today however all likely options perpetuate the same problem of being more divisive than cohesive.
You can help avoid this by registering with the Influx Project and supporting the concept of countries only being rated according to one thing, the support for the UN among its public. This, we feel, is not just the best way but the only way to create a referee capable of dealing with the challenges in the world.
